Teaching
I teach four courses per term on basic and advanced topics in psycholinguistics. In addition, I supervise research projects of Master's students and contribute to collaboratively courses. These are the courses I teach this term:
- Spracherwerb [Language Acquisition]
- Aufbauseminar Psycholinguistik: Einführung [Introduction to Psycholinguistics]
- Statistische Grundlagen II [Introduction to Statistics II]
- Einführung in die Linguistik: Phonetik und Phonologie [Introdution to Linguistics: Phonetics and Phonology]
The advanced topics I teach about cover a wide range of psycholinguistic research areas. In these courses and those leading up to them, I aim at instructing students on how to read about, work with and write about scientific reports of empirical research. Right from the beginning, I work with classic as well as current original research papers published in English in international peer-reviewed journals, introducing chapters from text books as additional reading only. The goal is to enable them to eventually write their own literature review for coursework. This intensive tuition in scientific writing is a solid basis for M.A. students, too, who are expected to carry out their own research projects and write up the results. Where applicable, such training in reading and writing about psycholinguistic studies can be used to contrast how research is being reported in psycho-linguistics as opposed to other fields of study. This can be useful in delineating differences in scientific approach and helping students be aware of their target audience in writing.
Over the years, I have taught courses on the a large variety of topics at introductory, intermediate and advanced levels.
